Benefits of an audit
• Reduce energy bills
• Improve safety
• Reduce your carbon footprint
• Maintain comfortable humidity levels
• Identify hazardous conditions
• Locate moisture problems and reduce risk of molds
• Reduce or eliminate ice dams
• Locate cold air drafts
• Locate under insulated areas
• Learn about low-cost energy improvements
The Energy Audit Process
The site visit takes approximately 1-2 hours
1. Starting with a look around the outside, we note:
• Plantings and nearby structures
• Ventilation, condition of siding, roofing, chimney, doors, windows, foundation and drainage
• Natural gas connections are checked for leakage
• Orientation of the building to the sun and prevailing winds
2. Interior inspection
• Review client's utility usage
• Inspect foundation, sill plate, and rim joist wherever possible
• Check natural gas connections
• Check for carbon monoxide gas
• Check walls, ceilings, windows, doors and floors with infrared camera
• Inspect water heater, heating system, and other heating appliances
• Check circuit breaker panel with thermal camera
• Make safety inspection
• Check for signs of moisture and molds
• Inspect insulation levels
• Discuss with client conditions of items that use electricity
• Inspect attic area wherever possible
3. Written report
• The written report will be sent to client with digital and infrared pictures
• Recommendations for safety
• Recommendations for renovations and improvements
• Material information
Infrared Inspections

We have Level 1 Thermographer's on Staff
We can scan buildings with an infrared Scanner. After the scan, we can write a report of our findings. We can also provide a visual record of the scan. Typically, the client requesting the
scan is present during the scan and will be allowed to use the scanner to see what our employee sees.
Our employee can usually explain the images the client is seeing so the client can
understand what they are looking at.
The thermal imager is the best and most versatile “tool” available. We recommend a capable infrared imager in the hands of a highly trained energy auditor for best results. With infrared imaging, we can simultaneously:
• Highlight high moisture content / moisture intrusion
• Locate and document air leaks (particularly useful when the leaks are 20 ft up and out of reach)
• Locate defects in the thermal boundary, insulation voids, insulation settling, thermal bypasses, etc
Insulation Deficiencies - We use advanced thermal imaging and software analysis to quickly and easily identify suspect sites of missing or settled insulation. These thermal weak points are costing you money year after year. Your detailed report will include infrared and visual images of the suspect locations.
Air Leakage - We can combine our thermal imaging capabilities with a comprehensive blower door evaluation to pinpoint leakage locations and to determine the overall air leakage rate of your home or office. Up to 40% of your energy, dollars are unnecessarily wasted due to air leakage. In most cases, windows and doors are NOT the primary culprits.
Water Intrusion & Mold – Infrared is the best technology to detect unseen moist areas around and within windows, walls, ceilings, and floors, which could lead to structural damage and mold growth. Moisture undetectable by eye or touch can easily be detected. This is the best and earliest detection possible to find moisture intrusion through your building envelope, window flashing, and to detect defective plumbing.
HVAC Duct Evaluation – Duct leakage typically wastes 10% - 30% of the heating or cooling energy purchased by the homeowner. Your ducts will be evaluated for overall leakage and proper thermal insulation. Your report will include detailed photos and annotations pinpointing leakage locations found in your ductwork.
Electrical – Electrical fires can be caused by overloaded wiring, corroded connections, and arcing. Many times these “faults” produce elevated heat signatures. Your evaluation will include a courtesy infrared scan of your panel box, and help determine whether follow up by a licensed electrician is appropriate.
Exterior Scan - An exterior scan in conjunction with the interior scan gives a "comprehensive" pictorial understanding of heat flow through your building envelope. Exterior scans are sensitive to environmental conditions including sun effects, relative humidity, wind, and the presence of moisture.
Analysis And Report - The infrared images and digital photographs will be analyzed to determine the most cost effective steps for energy efficiency, safety, cost savings, and comfort for your home or business. We can provide an estimate to fix the findings.
